Beauty | My Everyday Makeup Products (Summer 2015)

Remember when I told you that I purged most of my makeup, and decided what remained needed to fit into this? I haven’t looked back.

Having fewer products lying around makes me feel less consumed by stuff, and frankly, my small bathroom doesn’t allow for much more.

What made the cut are a handful of personal must-haves. I use each item nearly every day, and I have about five other products stowed away in my office drawer for when I want to switch things up. I think these basics are awesome, but this is coming from a woman who doesn’t really know how to do eye liner and who gets scared of her reflection when her lipstick is too bright. I don’t claim to be good at applying makeup, but I do have fairly high standards for quality and safety. I use the app Think Dirty to check the safety ratings of everything that I buy, and I try to keep all of my products below a 5. If it’s a “holy grail” product, I might make an exception, but so far I haven’t had to.

  1. Hello! I stumbled across your website whilst trying to figure out how a Moleskine in the colour “Khaki Beige” would turn out in real life. I was pretty pleased with what I saw and noted down the planner hack.

I was just scrolling through some of your posts when I noticed this post and I must say, well done on taking the plunge! I am trying my best to whittle down my massive beauty collection – whilst I have managed to halve it, there are still about 50 to 60 lipsticks and quite a substantial number of base and cheek products. I constantly remind myself that I only have one face and one pair of lips, but I get caught up in the latest hype.

I have been cutting down now and after seeing that someone has managed to sustain a well-curated capsule collection, I’m determined to do the same. Not as small as yours though, but perhaps I will report back with my results in a few months’ time.

    Cheers!

    P.S.: I enjoy your writing. 🙂

    • Hi there!

Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my blog! I completely understand the desire to buy the latest and greatest – even if just to try it at home and see how it looks. You never know which product will be your next holy grail ______, you know? But my busy days have motivated me to keep my collection small, as well as the desire to reduce $ spent on makeup overall. It’s not an easy task, whittling down your collection, but it sure is satisfying! Let me know how it goes! 🙂
